Operational Server Support provides the managed monitoring, maintenance and reactive support necessary to ensure that the server estate runs continuously, operates within capacity, is protected against intrusion and is safely backed up. Servers may be hosted at an ISP or the client’s own premises.

The service scope covers:

  • Monitoring of network, server and firewall availability, anti-virus software protection, operating system and database event logs, server metrics such as processor and disc space utilisation
  • Setup and maintenance of security policies
  • Backup services to tape, tape rotation, and checking for success / completeness
  • Software update: application of operating system and security patches; anti-virus update
  • Incident and supplier management
  • Out of hours support for emergencies

Efficient monitoring of servers requires investment in tooling to automate many of the routine functions associated with server monitoring and maintenance: for instance 24 x 7 checking of device availability, security checks, log scanning, patch management and backup.

We continue to invest heavily in this area where the portfolio of products used include Arcsight, and Patchlink, Veritas as well as internal proprietary systems.
