Heritage Lottery Fund

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) was set up by Parliament in 1994 to give grants to a wide range of projects involving the local, regional and national heritage of the United Kingdom. It distributes a share of the money raised by the National Lottery for Good Causes and allocates around £200 million annually to projects in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Since 1994, the HLF has awarded £4 billion to more than 26,000 projects across the UK.

Driving Efficiency

SFW has been working with the HLF since 2003 and, in that time, has delivered a number of projects that have helped to streamline and improve process efficiency and effectiveness. An example of which is SFW's development of the HLF Grants Management and Strategic Planning  System (GEMS). Benefits included:

  • Improved case management, through the use of collaboration and reporting tools
  • Improved application management and tracking
  • Improved turnaround times
  • Improved data integrity, and availability of management information.

Improving Information, Content and Accessibility

SFW has also assisted the HLF in delivering relevant information to its many and diverse stakeholders, working with the HLF on website redevelopment projects, in 2003 and  2009. In 2009 SFW, working with design agency Clear Signal, developed a new website that better catered for the wide range of stakeholders accessing the site, providing a more intuitive menu and content structure, more detailed project information and better access to grant applications forms and information.
