EEDA - The East of England Development Agency

SFW has delivered an intranet with collaboration and document management plus a business intelligence tool

The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) is the driving force behind sustainable economic growth and regeneration in the East of England. EEDA is a business-led government funded organisation sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). It operates across six counties with approximately 200 employees. EEDA is one of nine regional development agencies (RDAs) which focus on economic development and build prosperity in the English regions.

First, SFW developed an intranet solution for EEDA which increased productivity

EEDA's existing intranet was not performing to desired levels. Document management was not easy and staff had difficulties finding and accessing content. In addition, an organisational restructure meant that the intranet topology and services offered were incorrect. EEDA awarded SFW the contract to redevelop the intranet and address these issues.

SFW provided EEDA with a scalable platform (Microsoft SharePoint) which would easily extend to meet future requirements. SFW's system included a number of key improvements to the site structure, administration and usage reporting elements. For example, SFW integrated the intranet with other key enterprise applications and introduced a simple and effective document storage and management facility. The new system also includes links to a wide variety of internal and external resources, collaboration facilities and it can be accessed remotely by all staff. 

As a result of these enhancements, the redeveloped intranet prompted an increase in staff satisfaction and an increase in staff productivity.

Secondly, SFW delivered a Business Information solution to improve access to information and increase efficiency

EEDA's management need access to summary information on a wide range of internal (ie the efficiency of processes) and external (ie results of investment) measures. Previously the collation of data into monthly reports was an arduous task - almost a full time responsibility for two staff members.

SFW implemented a business information (BI) solution at EEDA based on Microsoft Performance Point. This system has an advantage that it integrates perfectly with the SharePoint intranet system already implemented by SFW.

Summary information is now:

  • available right across the organisation
  • more up to date, allowing more timely decisions to be taken
  • more accurate
  • compiled with much less staff time required
  • presented in an easy to understand visual dashboard display
  • more thorough, with the "self service" capability for users to drill down from summary information to data on many individual projects.
