Dean & Dyball, established in 1970 is a specialist regional contractor to clients in the public and private sectors in the areas of construction, civil engineering and rail. It was purchased in March 2008 by Balfour Beatty to extend its UK regional civil engineering and building businesses.
Improving Productivity, Performance and Streamlining Storage
Dean & Dyball’s projects are as diverse as harbour regeneration, the build of car parks, roads, bridges , reservoirs, marinas and the RNLI college. All of these projects have one thing in common - a vast amount of records, technical drawings and other essential project documentation, usually over 100,000 per project, which need to be accessed, updated, filed, stored and maintained in line with legislative controls and shared between geographically disparate teams.
Dean & Dyball had created Project Portals using Microsoft SharePoint, but required some additional support to provide and improve, amongst others search and alert features. Upon recommendation from Microsoft, Dean & Dyball engaged with SFW to deliver the assistance needed to improve the Project Portal performance.
Among the benefits delivered through the revisions to the SharePoint Project Portals were:
- Improved collaboration across and between teams
- Better data, and information and records management, reduced duplication and more efficient use of data storage (files aren’t duplicated unnecessarily)
- Improved transparency and traceability for all project information for super users and users through email alerts and the tracker
- Better productivity and improved ability to source information e.g. on site searching for technical information
- Excellent feedback from portal users, improving adoption of the system.
