Nobody could have missed the news of the tragic effects of the earthquake in Haiti this January. The sheer scale of the disaster and loss of life, never mind the issues of actually getting aid to survivors, has dominated the news - as has the public response.
“It was a simple idea,” said Marketing Manager, Catriona Anderson. “Haiti needs $246 million worth of food aid alone, so on Tuesday SFW gave all its staff a free lunch and, in return, they donated what they would have spent to Oxfam's Haiti Appeal. There was a great response and over 35 of our 50 Woking-based staff were able to make it. If just under half the UK population donated their lunch money for one day like we did, then this would pay for Haiti’s entire food aid need. Raising what we did, given the relatively small amount of people and time we did it in is a real achievement and testament to our staff’s generosity.”
