Structure
A BI system can comprise 3 different tiers. However, components from all three tiers are not always required to fulfil the requirement, so SFW uses the technology judiciously - always focussing on delivering best value for the client organisation.

Data Infrastructure and BI platform – SQL Server 2008

  • Analysis Services (the OLAP Bit) – creates a unified dimensional model (UDM) which defines business units and how the data should be sliced,  along with user-friendly names. This is, effectively, the translation of raw data into the meaningful information that users will interact with.
  • Reporting Services (Simple and drill down reports)
  • Integration Services (moving data around from LOB systems and other sources)
  • Data Mining (automatically looking for correlations between sets of data)
  • Data Warehousing (storing data)
