Royal Society takes to the Cloud to reduce costs and mitigate risk
The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) is one of the country's major providers of postgraduate medical education. It needed a new target operating model to address some key risks and concerns surrounding the ICT estate, namely:
- Use of technology
- Time to market
In the first instance, SFW worked with RSM senior management to understand the organisation’s concerns and objectives going forward and, in parallel, to carry out an assessment of the existing ICT estate.
An analysis then determined where the highest level of risk was occurring and also where the ICT was preventing RSM either from operating efficiently in terms of speed and cost, or from fulfilling key objectives. The exercise covered staff provision and skills, as well as areas in which the existing IT function would be unable to provide services.
Shaping the IT function for Cloud computing
Key recommendations included outsourcing some services within the ICT estate to a public cloud provider to save money and mitigate risk.
SFW continues to assist in shaping the internal IT function and selecting suppliers to deliver the performance improvements.
